The composer used music resembling English folk melodies, but aren't necessarily actual folk songs. The final movement is based on a melody Holst heard in Sicily.
This piece is suitable for community or amateur orchestras, since it isn't too difficult, yet it has its challenges, such as the above-mentioned range of the cello melodies!
